CRANKY OLD MAN

I came across this poem in Facebook and I was really awed by how it was beautifully written. I

want to share it with you. The poem was originally by  Phyllis McCormack; adapted by Dave

Griffith.

Cranky Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?

What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me?

A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,

Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply.

When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!'

Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.

And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will,

With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?

Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see?

Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,

As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.

I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,

Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another

A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet

Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet.

A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.

Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.

Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.

A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,

Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last
.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,

But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn.

At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee,

Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.

I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread.

For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.

And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel.

It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.

The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart.

There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,

And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells

I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.

And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.

I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast.

And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.

So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see.
Not a cranky old man .

Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. .... . ME!!

OVERWHELMED!!!

It has been really a very crazy week!!! There were many requirements to be submitted with so little time on hand. Yung walang tulugan and with many things to juggle like thesis and ojt... It was really @.@

One of the requirements was a presentation for our HRM class; we have to make a job analyis then job description for a person who has a "technical job" , we need to group ourselves into 8 (so kami na magkakabarkada yung magkagroup which was great!). There were really many challenges that we encounter like our supposed interviewee (an IT Recruiter) did not fit the definition of our professor's of technical job. She wants a a person who is a 4 years grad and uses equipment for her daily work (not just a computer). So lahat kami nagpanic, tawag sa mga kakilala, muni muni to think for a back up like for 4 hours... then came Mara, she asked for help sa cousin nya who is a Medical Technologist, grabe debate namin dun if MedTech is a a technical job until sa lahat kami nag agree. Next pumunta kami kina Janice, dun usap na naman ano plano then kain like and finally interview na. The good thing was Ms. Rea was very cooperative, understanding and very helpful. Naabala pa siya cause we asked her to take pictures of her workplace para mapakita namin ang nature of work nya and take note may duty pa siya kinaumagahan nun.We all went home mga 10.30 na ng gabi. Thank you Ms. Rea Hortizuela for accomodating us with even with very, very short notice.

with Ms. Rea Hortizuela
Back L-R: Gerine, Zynnc, Me, Raine
Front L-R: Mara, Janice, Ms. Rea, Beth, Jeca

The next day, gawa namin kami ng papers namin, the outputs, nag Jollibee  para pwede din kumain. Dito basa ng book, research about job description and job analysis at discussion kami. Hati hati kami sa work, may nag eencode, search sa net at gawa ng ppt (Beth and I), may gumagawa nung mga parts ng job description (Jeca, Zynnc, Raine, Janice and Mara). It was really teamwork and our strive to have a good grade that pushes us through. nakauwi na naman kami ng mga lagpas 10.

On the day itself, nag eedit parin kami ng paper namin at ppt, last 5 minutes before class dun palang kami nakalis ng dorm ni Zynnc galing sa pageedit at print. W arrived sa room ngmga 4:10, were late and out of breath 0.0. Then came the presentations, pang 4 kami, ang gaganda din ng mga presentations ng mga classmantes namin, kinabahan na kami. Nung kami, we can see in our Prof's eyes that she is happy. :) Then she said after our presentation "Congratulations! The content is there, its complete!" She was impressed and happy. Kami and ako personally was very happy, very overwhelmed! kami ang very first group na sinabihan nya ng Congratulations after 3 groups na nagpresent. All our efforts really paid off!!

I just want to share this event kasi talaga super saya ko... I personally dont know why.

I am back

I can't sleep so I decide to post something on this blog. This has been very embarrassing day but I don;t have plans to tell you why. I know I'm mean so please bear with me.

The reason why I post is because of my twitter account which I suppose to have deactivated so looong ago. Last Sunday, i received a notification that a certain someone followed me on twitter, I was really surprised because  I deactivated my account last 2009 when I was still a first year undergrad because during those times no really cared about twitter, my friends don't have twitter and it was really pretty boring. But because of the notification, I am back on the Twitter world now that I presently a fourth year undergrad!!! After 3 looong years!!! O.O

"Its Complicated"

A friend of mind recommend to me to read Juan Ekis' works. I now agree with her :)

"It was fun while it lasted."

CAROUSEL- JUAN EKIS

MGA TAUHAN
X 19, lalaki. College student. 3rd year, economics student.
Y 18, babae. College student. 2nd year, humanities student.

TAGPO

Y: Tara samahan mo akong maglakad.

Tatayo si X.

X: Hindi ako makapag-isip pag gumagalaw e.Y Hindi ako makapag-isip pag nakaupo lang tayo e.

Maglalakad sila.

X: Sa’n ba tayo pupunta?
Y: Ikaw dapat tinatanong ko niyan e.
X: I have no other explanation, okay? Hindi ko naman ginusto ‘yun e. Nangyari na lang.
Y: Pwede ba ‘yun?
X: Hindi ko alam. I’m just being honest.
Y: Ano’ng gusto mong mangyari?

Mag-iisip si X.

X: Gusto kong maging adobo.
Y: What?
X: Parang pagluluto. Tayo, may kilawin na tayo.Y Ano ‘yung kilawin?
Y: Yuck.
X: Masarap ‘yon, hindi mo pa sinusubukan.
Y: Raw meat? Ewww.
X: Fine. Regardless. Kunwari, gusto mo ng kilawin.
Y: Ayoko nga e.
X: Kunwari nga.
Y: Fine.
X: Fine. So we have meat soaked in vinegar.
Y: Sige. Masarap na ang kilawin natin.
X: And you like it the way it is.
Y :Yes.
X: Pero what if we try adobo instead?
Y: What if ayaw ko ng adobo?

X: Mas marami siyang ingredients?
Y: E pa’no kung wala pa tayo nung ibang ingredients?
X: Hindi naman tayo nagmamadali e. Gutom ka na ba?
Y: (Matatawa) Gago. So what are you trying to say?
X: I’m asking for a bit of suka from our kilawin and try to make adobo.Y What if hindi ako nasarapan sa adobo?
Like everything that’s good in this world, kailangan ng time.
Y: Okay naman yung kilawin a? Bago maluto sa suka ‘yon, I’m sure you’ll have to soak it in vinegar for a long time.
X: Ang adobo, naluto sa apoy.
Y: Pa’no nga kung hindi masarap?
X: We’ll always have the kilawin. No harm done. We can always eat kilawin.
Y: Ayoko nga ng kilawin.
X: It’s a metaphor!
Y: Alam ko. Ginagago lang kita.

Tahimik.

Y: What if I want to make adobo with someone else?Mahabang katahimikan.
X: Is that it?
Y: (Ngingiti) It doesn’t work that way you know.
X: Ano’ng ibig mong sabihin?
Y: Kahit ano’ng sabihin mo, kung hindi natin nagustuhan yung adobo, we cannot have the kilawin we used to have.
X: Bakit?
Y: Bawas na ang suka at meat.
X: Inevitable ‘yon! Pagkain ‘yon e. Mababawasan talaga kilawin man o adobo pag kinain na natin.

Tahimik.

Y: Fine. So ano’ng gusto mong gawin ko?
X: I’m just asking you to give me the chance to cook adobo.
Y: Hope.
X: There. Diyan tayo nagkakaiba.
X: Probability.
Y: Okay…
X: Example: what are the chances na may alien spacecraft na magland dito ngayon sa ortigas?Y What’s your point?
X: Sagutin mo muna ako. Ano ang probability?
Y: Wala. Zero. Imposibleng mangyari.
X: Hindi ‘yon imposible.
Y: Fine.
X: So ano ang probability?
Y: Maliit?
X: Would you say na mayroong 0.000000001% chance na mangyari ‘yon?

Sandaling katahimikan.

Y: Fine. Yes.
X: Pareho ba yun ng hope? Pareho ba ‘yun pag sinabi mong may hope bang magland ang isang UFO dito sa Ortigas? Y (Pause) Hindi.
X: Kitams? But the probability exists. The chance exists. Ano’ng probability na maulit itong exact same
conversation that we’re having at the exact same place with the exact same circumstances mamaya?
Y: Hindi mangyayari ‘yon.
X: Pwede bang sakyan mo muna ang line of reasoning ko kahit sandali?
Y: Okay, okay. 0.000001%.
X: Am I hoping na maulit ang exact conversation natin dito with the exact circumstances later on? Hindi.
Y: What’s your point?
X: Magkaiba ang hope sa probability. Probability ang chance, hindi hope.
Y: So pag sinabi mong “give me a chance” ang ibig sabihin no’n give me a probability?
X: Sakto!
Y: People don’t say that! Pag sinasabi nila ‘yon, ang ibig nilang sabihin, give me hope!X Not necessarily.
Y: So your asking me to give you a probability of cooking adobo?
X: No. Hinihingi ko lang, mag-agree ka sa akin that probabilities exist.
Y: The probability of what?
X: Na masarap ang adobong maluluto natin?

Mahabang katahimikan.

Y: I don’t know.

Tahimik.

X: Ano bang kinakatakot mo?
Y: I’ve had bad experience with adobo.
X: I know…kaya nga I’m asking you with the basis of the kilawin we already have, to give me the chance to cook adobo.
X: I just want you to acknowledge that the probability exists. Yun lang.

Mahabang katahimikan.

Y: Okay fine. There is that 0.00000000001% chance it might happen. Okay? Narinig mo na ang gusto mo. Now let’s stop talking about it.

Tahimik. Magugulat si X. Ngingiti siya.

X: Talaga?
Y: Tama na. Okay na. Huwag ka nang mangulit.
X: Okay.

Y: Tara samahan mo akong maglakad.

Tatayo si X.
X: Hindi ako makapag-isip pag gumagalaw e.
Y: Hindi ako makapag-isip pag nakaupo lang tayo e.

Maglalakad sila.
X: Sa’n ba tayo pupunta?
Y: Ikaw dapat tinatanong ko niyan e.

Lalakad sila palayo ng ministop.
